From a young age my Mom instilled in me how important skincare is. Typical Korean Mom lol. She would always say you will thank me later, and now at my young age of 31, I am so thankful for her teaching me to take care of my skin. I started using the basics of skincare at the age of 12, so going through my regimen has become second nature to me.
Your skin is such a vital part of your body, in fact it is the largest organ that makes up the human body. Your skin is made of 2 layers, the epidermis and dermis which lies underneath. I believe the key to skincare is to nourish both. My skin is on its way to maturing so all the products I use will target aspects of anti-aging and be for preventative measures. My skin has transitioned so much over the past few years. I currently have dryer, sometimes sensitive skin. So I look for products that fit my skin type. It is important when shopping for skin products that they will fit you and your needs. Make sure to read up on the products before buying them since they are an investment!
I have been transitioning to use all clean beauty products. Clean beauty products are eco-friendly and ethically sourced. Clean beauty brands have taken a great big leap in creating clean products, cutting out toxins and chemicals that are harmful to your body. Stores like Sephora have made shopping clean beauty super accessible by creating one click shopping!
So here is my current skincare regimen!
Let’s talk about cleansers! This is the first step to any regimen. I use Farmacy’s Green Clean which is a cleansing balm that melts to oil in the palm of your hands. It has the best summery scent made from lime, bergamot, and orange essential oils. To me it smells like key lime pie! This not only will melt away stubborn makeup, but will also cleanse away impurities & pollution your face collects throughout the day. It is very gently and non-stripping, good for all skin types.
The next step is a continuation of cleansers, part b if you will. A crucial part of a Korean skincare regimen is double cleansing. If this is a new concept to you, don’t fret I am here to show you the way!
Double cleansing is a practice done to achieve clearer skin. The first step uses an oil based cleanser (like the farmacy’s green clean) to draw oil related impurities such as sebum, SPF, and pollutants. The next cleansing step gets rid of water based debris like sweat & dirt.
Here is my favorite face wash, the Too Cool for School Egg Mousse Soap. It is made up of “egg white extract that purifies, tightens, and brightens while egg yolk extract moisturizes.” It’s meringue like texture leaves your skin clean, hydrated, and glowing! Ever wanted to play with you dad’s shaving cream? Well here’s the face soap to do just that!
After you wash your face, then comes toner. Toner is a used to quickly lock in moisture and close your pores. I have been loving the Kopari Coconut Rose Toner so so much! It smells so delightful, and not overpowering on either of the coconut or rose notes.
It is a “ vegan, alcohol-free, and multitasking toner to keep redness at bay—that can also be used as a face primer, setting spray, and a quick refresh throughout the day. Kopari’s Coconut Rose Toner has three star ingredients: coconut extract, rose extract, and witch hazel. This winning combination keeps redness at bay, prevents blemishes, and soothes irritation without drying your skin. This toner is vegan, non-GMO, cruelty-free, noncomedogenic, and formulated without silicone, gluten, and synthetic fragrances.”
What is not to love about this toner? I am a repeat buyer, and every time I have been in a Sephora, they can’t seem to keep this one on their shelves! Highly recommend ordering one for yourself today!
EYE CREAM - A must have in your routine! I have been using eye cream since the age of 12! And I must say I don’t have any wrinkles around my eyes yet. Don’t wait til you start seeing loss of elasticity or darkness under around your eyes to use eye cream. It is used for both treatment & preventative measures.
My current eye cream is the Drunk Elephant C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream. It is jam packed with peptitdes, vitamin c, antioxidants, and ceramides all to restore & brighten your eye area. It is gentle enough to use both AM/PM.
Let’s talk about serums. Serums are your targeted treatments for whatever issues you have with your skin. For instance my main issues are sun spots, wrinkle prevention, dullness, and loss of firmness/elasticty. Think of it has a vitamin for your face!
The Biossance Squalane + Phyto-Retinol Serum is hands down one of my favorite retinol treatments. It is a plant derived retinol alternative, but with all the benefits of what a traditional retinol would deliver. It instantly shows smoothes your skin, and diminished the look of fine lines and wrinkles. It also evens skin tones & can even be a light moisturizer. Since it doesn’t have any photosensitive agents like a retinol would, its a great light weight day serum to wear under makeup!
Second we have the Farmacy’s Honeymoon Glow which is a newer serum for me. This cute serum packs a punch with 14% AHA/BHA combo derived from all natural ingredients such as flower/fruit acids & willow bark. It promoted cell renewal, hyper-pigmentation, and again fine lines & wrinkles. This is a night time serum that you would apply after toner and before moisturizer. You will wake up with the softest feeling face, smooth like a baby’s ass!
Third is the Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil which is my holy grail of all oils you can implement into your routine. Believe me when I say I have tried every serum claiming to brighten and diminish sun spots, nothing comes close to this one. I have seen the most benefits from this oil. Not only does it hydrate your skin, it leaves you looking radiant and glowing. This is recommended to be applied over your moisturizer and will be the last step. I usually use this in my night time routine, but I will also use it when I need that extra glow on those no makeup days.
Finally, we can’t forget moisturizers! My daytime moisturizer is the Herbivore Pink Cloud Rosewater Moisture Creme. It has the best light scent of rose, and is deeply moisturizing yet still lightweight enough to wear under makeup. “It’s made with rosewater, aloe water, sodium hyaluronate, white tea, and rice extracts to hydrate, soothe, and reduce appearance of redness.” Just perfection in a little tub. Herbivore is also based out of Seattle, Wa (my hometown) so I love supporting local companies making great positive changes to the industry.
As for my night time moisturizer, I use the Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream, which is a mouthful! Put simply, it is a protein based moisturizer that helps maintain & prevents breakdown of your collagen. Just like adding a scoop of protein to your smoothies, this is the same concept, but for your face! How playful and effective! It deeply moisturizes my skin without feeling heavy on the surface and quickly quenches any dryness. This cream works hard to keep you looking young & vibrant. I am a believer of Drunk Elephant!
